Residency status is under Financial Aid

Once you are admitted to WSU and your tuition and expenses have been packaged by financial aid, you can see your residency status in myWSU. Students with Pending Residency can not see this field because financial aid has not be calculated.

Log into myWSU

  • Start at your Student Homepage
  • Select the Financial Aid tile
  • Select Aid Year
    • Estimated Net Cost shows Semester, Residency Status, and possibly Tuition Residency and Residency Exception.
    • Need Summary shows Semester, Residency Status, Tuition Residency, and Residency Exception.
    • Tuition Residency may not be visible until your financial aid has been packaged.

Definitions

  • Residency Status: Overall residency used to calculate financial aid.
  • Tuition residency: Tuition is calculated based on this field. If Residency Status is Non-Resident, your Tuition & Expenses may reflect non-resident until closer to the time your tuition bill is due.
  • Residency exception: If you have a resident tuition exception, this field describes the type of exception.

Military Residency

Military residency grants certain non-resident military-affiliated students resident tuition. Students have Residency Status - Non-Resident and Tuition Residency - Resident. Tuition costs are based on the Tuition Residency field.

Some military-affiliated students are eligible for full resident status

If your military parent has maintained Washington ties, or you are a financially independent student who has lived in Washington for 12 months, you may be eligible for full resident status. Use the Residency Tool to see if you are eligible.

Benefits of full resident status

  • Tuition & Expenses will display correctly.
  • Eligibility for state financial aid.

Checking your tuition bill in myWSU

Though not easy to find, you can check the amount of your tuition bill to determine if your residency has been updated in myWSU. Please allow at least five (5) business days for Financial Aid to repackage your aid and re-calculate your bill.
