Students with Military Residency exceptions

Military residency allows certain military-affiliated students the benefit of resident tuition. Students are coded as Non-Resident overall; the Tuition Residency field will show Resident. Cost of Attendance is initially calculated at the Non-Resident rate and financial aid will adjust the tuition to Resident at some point before tuition is due. You can view WSU's Cost of Attendance to calculate the difference between resident and non-resident tuition. If your tuition does not eventually adjust, contact us. If Tuition Residency is Resident, you do not need to reapply for Military Residency.

Some military-affiliated students are eligible for full resident status

Financially dependent students with a parent who has maintained their Washington ties, or financially independent students who have lived in Washington for 12 months, you may be eligible for full resident status. Take the Residency Quiz to see if you are eligible. The recommendation is to complete the military application first to guarantee resident tuition, then apply using the Traditional application if you are eligible for full resident status.

Benefits of full resident status
  • Cost of attendance will display correctly.
  • Eligibility for state financial aid.
