Residency Quizzes
We created three short residency quizzes to help you find out if you may be eligible for resident tuition at WSU. These quizzes will not track your personal information and are a tool to estimate eligibility. Take them as many times as you wish. The quizzes are NOT the residency application.
Which quiz should I take?
- Residency Affidavit Quiz. This is the easiest way to qualify for resident tuition. Did you live in Washington for one year prior to your first year in a Washington college? Take this quiz.
- General Residency Quiz. Start with this quiz; it will tell you the type of residency to apply for.
- American Indian Quiz. Are you a member of a tribe? Take this quiz to see if your membership qualifies you for Washington resident tuition.

Getting started with Residency
Read the page with information about the type of residency that you may be eligible for. If there is a checklist, download it and use it to assemble your supporting documents. Apply for residency up to 60 days prior to the term and no later than 30 days into the term that you want resident tuition to begin.
The quiz says I am NOT eligible now. Can I apply later?
Yes. We review applications for Fall and Spring semesters. Visit the Future Residency page for actions that you can take now to be eligible for resident tuition in a future semester.
Who is eligible for residency consideration?
To be considered for resident tuition, a student must first be in an eligible citizenship or immigration status. The following students can be considered:
- US citizens and US nationals (American Samoa, Swains Island, Northern Mariana Islands)
- Permanent Residents (green card)
- Students with an unexpired Employment Authorization Document (EAD)
- Refugees, asylees, Temporary Protected Status (TPS), or Witholding of Removal
- Students with current or expired DACA status
- Students with T or U visa status
- Students with PRUCOL (Permanently Residing Under the Color of Law) status
